How to Manage Oral Ulcers in Cats

Cats can be quite delicate and require careful attention to their living conditions. If a cat’s care is inadequate or its diet is improper, it may develop mouth ulcers. When a cat has mouth ulcers, it can be very painful, potentially affecting its eating. Pet owners should take timely measures to help their cats.
  1. Feed Soft Food
    • When a cat has mouth ulcers, pet owners should feed it soft foods such as millet porridge, canned food, or fish soup. Alternatively, soak dry cat food in goat milk to soften it before feeding.
  2. Treat Ulcers
    • If a cat has ulcers, pet owners should treat them promptly. Otherwise, it may affect the cat’s eating and health. Use pet – specific oral sprays like Chongkouqing and add Chongkoufu to the cat’s food.
  3. Provide a Varied Diet
    • Some mouth ulcers in cats are due to nutritional deficiencies. Pet owners should adjust the cat’s diet and avoid feeding only dry cat food. Mix boiled beef, grated carrots, and broccoli with the cat food, or prepare millet porridge or meat porridge for the cat. Also, avoid feeding snacks that are hard to chew.
  4. Keep the Cat’s Mouth Clean
    • Regularly check and clean your cat’s teeth to prevent plaque buildup, which can lead to ulcers. Use a soft – bristled toothbrush or a silicone brush and cat – specific toothpaste to gently brush your cat’s teeth.
  5. Supplement Vitamins
    • Provide your cat with vitamin B supplements, as a deficiency in vitamin B can contribute to mouth ulcers. Feed your cat foods rich in vitamin B or consult your veterinarian about appropriate supplements.
  6. Consult a Veterinarian
    • If your cat’s mouth ulcers persist or worsen, consult a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. The vet may prescribe antibiotics, antiviral medications, or other treatments based on the underlying cause.
By following these tips, you can help your cat recover from mouth ulcers and maintain good oral health.
