British Shorthair male cats display several distinct behaviors when in heat. Initially, they may roll around on the floor, twist their bodies, or emit rough, low – pitched howls. One of the most noticeable behaviors is spraying urine around the house. The cat raises its tail high and quickly wags it while spraying a strong – smelling urine onto walls or other vertical surfaces. Additionally, the cat may be foundting by the door and scratching at it with its claws.

The heat period for male British Shorthair cats typically begins around July to September. They usually come into heat once a week, with each heat period lasting seven to ten days. During this time, the cat may also exhibit behaviors such as rolling on the ground or twisting its body. Some cats may howl to attract females. When spraying urine, the cat raises and quickly wags its tail, leaving a stream of urine on the wall.
Other signs of a British Shorthair male cat in heat include:
  1. Decreased appetite and increased vocalization, known as “calling” or “yowling,” to attract females.
  2. Due to increased testosterone levels, the cat is more likely to spray urine around the house, and the urine has a strong odor.
  3. Some cats may be found蹲ting by the door and scratching at it with their claws, attempting to go outside to find a mate.
